PS5 cooling & servicing
An overheating warning is a symptom—not the full diagnosis.
Dust is common, but fan problems, blocked heatsinks, power-supply contamination and poor liquid-metal contact can all cause heat and shutdowns.
Common signs of PS5 overheating
- An on-screen temperature warning
- The fan becoming unusually loud
- Random shutdowns during demanding games
- The console switching off and refusing to restart immediately
- Excessive heat from the rear vents
Why a quick blast of air is not a proper service
Dust often packs inside the heatsink and power supply where it cannot be removed properly from the outside. Blowing compressed air through the vents may move debris deeper into the machine without checking the real cause.
A proper PS5 service includes
- Safe disassembly and internal inspection
- Deep cleaning of the fan, heatsink, vents and power-supply airflow
- Checking for corrosion, liquid or insect contamination
- Inspection of the liquid-metal contact and cooling interface
- Correct reassembly and temperature testing under load
Does every shutdown mean overheating?
No. Power-supply faults, board-level shorts and software problems can produce similar behaviour. That is why we diagnose the symptoms rather than selling a clean as a cure for every console that switches off.
Reduce the chance of it happening again
Keep the console in an open area, avoid thick carpets and enclosed TV units, and leave clear space around the intake and exhaust. If the fan changes noticeably or shutdowns begin, stop forcing it through long gaming sessions.
