Before paying to repair a faulty phone, check whether its manufacturer, retailer or protection plan can help. This guide explains the usual UK mobile phone warranty periods and links to the official places to check your own device.
At iPhoneBits in Glengormley, Newtownabbey, we want you to understand your options before booking a repair. A warranty expiry date is only part of the picture: the fault, purchase history and terms of your cover also matter.
Checked 8 September 2026. The periods below refer to standard manufacturer cover for UK-market phones; imported devices, accessories, refurbished purchases and extra protection plans can have different terms.
How long is a mobile phone warranty?
Apple iPhone: one year
Apple’s limited warranty covers manufacturing defects for one year from the original retail purchase. AppleCare is separate cover, so check the plan and end date attached to your device.
Check your iPhone coverage with Apple. You can also look under Settings → General → AppleCare & Warranty. Have your serial number and purchase receipt available if the date needs correcting. Read the Apple UK warranty terms for exclusions and claim requirements.
Samsung Galaxy: normally 24 months
Samsung lists a 24-month standard UK smartphone warranty, including its Certified Re-Newed models. Do not assume every imported Galaxy has the same cover: Samsung states that, from 1 February 2026, certain phones placed on markets outside the UK and imported by third parties have a maximum one-year warranty term.
Use Samsung’s official UK warranty page to check the product terms and access product registration and support. Ask Samsung to confirm your particular phone’s coverage using its model, serial number or IMEI and proof of purchase. The general 24-month listing is not an individual coverage confirmation.
Google Pixel: normally two years in the UK
Google describes its standard UK Pixel manufacturer warranty as two years. Check your device’s actual eligibility rather than assuming a second-hand or imported phone receives a fresh two-year period.
Check your Pixel through Google’s repair and warranty service. Sign in and follow the prompts with your IMEI and the fault details. Google’s warranty eligibility guide explains the process. Its UK protection information distinguishes the standard warranty from optional Pixel Care+ cover.
What does a phone warranty usually cover?
A standard manufacturer warranty generally covers qualifying defects, rather than every reason a phone might stop working. Accidental cracks, liquid damage and normal wear or battery ageing are commonly excluded. A manufacturing fault in a battery is a different issue from its capacity gradually reducing through use.
Insurance or an additional protection plan may cover some accidental damage, subject to its own conditions and any excess. Being within the warranty dates does not guarantee that a particular repair is free: the provider must assess the fault and applicable terms.
What if the warranty has expired?
A manufacturer warranty is additional to your statutory consumer rights. If a phone bought from a business is faulty, you may still have a claim against the seller after the manufacturer cover ends. The remedy depends on the circumstances, including the phone’s age, condition and cause of the fault.
This is not an automatic six-year phone warranty or a promise of a free repair. For Northern Ireland guidance, read nidirect’s explanation of guarantees, warranties and consumer rights. Contact the seller before authorising paid work if you intend to pursue a claim.
Second-hand phones and previous repairs
Buying a used phone does not automatically restart the manufacturer warranty. Check any remaining manufacturer cover and the separate warranty promised by the seller. A refurbished phone sold by another retailer is not necessarily covered by the manufacturer’s own certified-refurbished programme.
If a warranty claim may apply, speak to the provider before having the phone opened or repaired elsewhere. Previous work and damage caused by a repair can affect eligibility under the relevant terms. Do not assume that an independent repair is an authorised manufacturer warranty claim.
Before starting a warranty check
- Find the exact model, serial number or IMEI in the phone settings or original packaging.
- Keep your receipt or order confirmation and note when the problem started.
- Use the official manufacturer links above. Do not post your IMEI, serial number or account details in public comments.
- Back up important data before sending a device for assessment, where possible.
